Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

Traduction de Manuel M

A jewel camera!

Post-war period, the film 135 format is spread and become the standard for the cameras “general public”. Zeiss wishes to position on this  and launch in 1948 the Ikonta 35, a quite finished but relatively basic folding camera with its skimped viewfinder and the lack of rangefinder.

Competitors proposing some cameras more and more sophisticated, Zeiss introduce in 1950 an appreciably advanced version: the Contessa.

This camera had all to be liked: a prestigious optics Zeiss Opton Tessar 2.8 - 45 mm in a Compur-Rapid with or without self-timer (Synchro-Compur with self-timer as from 1953), a selenium cell integrated and especially a rangefinder coupled on the same principle as the Super Ikontas.

This superb camera was handicapped by a relatively high price, and its career stopped in 1955, Zeiss bet then on its Contaflex reflex camera
